Activated Charcoal – The New Revolution
noun: activated charcoal
1. charcoal that has been heated or otherwise treated to increase its adsorptive power.
‘Activated’ charcoal then has the ability to become extremely absorbent. It gives charcoal space to take up toxins, poisons, gasses, dirt, dust which are then expelled from the body.
How is this achieved?
Activated Charcoal is not the same as the charcoal bricks for the weber or the burnt bits of dinner. Making activated charcoal involves heating carbon rich materials to extreme heats stripping the charcoal of previously absorbed molecules freeing up the bonding sites.
Charcoal has been around for thousands of years but has only lately gained momentum for use from skin care, toothpaste as well as ingestion for so many health benefits.
But why the hype?
A few of the benefits of activated charcoal include the following:
Charcoal assists the kidneys to filter out undigested toxins & drugs. The body cannot process charcoal so the toxins that are trapped in it leave the body taking whatever it absorbed.
Intestinal gas & Bloating
Similarly gas is also trapped within the charcoal and expelled with it from the body.
Charcoal when activated has major absorbing abilities and takes impurities & other nasties from your water making it much cleaner to drink.
Teeth Whitening & oral health
Activated Charcoal absorbs plaque build-up & microscopic particles that cause staining. Brushing with charcoal change the PH within the mouth helping to prevent cavities, bad breath & gum disease.
Activated charcoal can help draw microparticles such as dirt, dust, chemicals, toxins, and bacteria to the surface of the skin making removing them easier.
Charcoal may absorb smells and harmful gases making it ideal as an underarm, shoe, and even as a fridge deodorant.
